I wrote two letters
notarized and signed
my signature twirled nice
locks curled and straight lined
one flip and I could see the matte cards embossed
a pair of gold leaf trims made laps in the dark
I swapped and switched them as well as I could
to me I felt it, the weight of the ink
arteries that surge with each beat of my heart
in my palm the choice was clear
I opened the gate and watched as it fall
the gold laced card slid out of my heart
and before I could ponder to catch it
the gate recoiled and snapped
the best I could hope was that you’ll write me back
