Itβs time to depart again
Two trains take off from the same station
We travelled parallel for as long as rail would allow
I glanced through the window and saw them line up with the car across the tracks
I locked eyes with her on the train over
Her hand tugged at a backpack strap and she adjusted her stance
Her train inched forward and mine fell back
The windows fell out of phase one panel at a time,
with each passing shadow my eyes fluttered and adjusted
And I became taller still,
I could see the top of that train until it was swallowed by dark tunnel
Light filtered through the cabin as we passed over
There was still some time left in the evening
